Amate Paper Mexican Folk Paintings

Latino Heritage Month
September 15 – October 15

The “bark paper” is prepared by soaking a paper bag, crumpling it and allowing it to dry.  The bag is ironed flat with wax paper, which gives it the authentic look.

Folk Paintings generally include a decorative border and fanciful flora and fauna.   Animals are often portrayed imaginatively, and the colors are bright and festive.  Paintings can be landscapes or can be abstract compositions of flowers, plants and all manner of creatures.

8th graders created these paintings in the style of Mexican Amate Bark Paper paintings.
