Summer Reading
May 2009
Dear NBMS Student,
We urge you to strengthen your reading skills by reading as much as you can over the summer. Read fiction and non-fiction books as well as newspapers and magazines. The books on the lists provided are by grade level and are suggested reading by your English teachers. You are required to read a minimum of two books this summer. You can choose to read a fiction or non-fiction book. The books can come from the list attached or may be self-selected. We suggest you visit the list of books entitled “Books Too Good To Miss” that is linked from the main page of the NBMS website:
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/northbethesdams
To help you remember what you read, your teachers are requiring you to complete a graphic organizer for one of the books. There is one organizer for fiction books and another for nonfiction books. Choose the appropriate organizer. Your teacher will give you credit for the completion of the organizer in English class. Expect an in-class writing assignment that is directly related to your summer reading. Return your completed graphic organizer to your English teacher, on Wednesday, September 2 nd.
If you have any questions regarding the summer reading program, please contact richard_h_earenfight@mcpsmd.orgby email or call the school at 301-571-3883
Have a wonderful summer and read a good book or two!
Sincerely,
Your English Teachers
