WTOP “Click for Kids” Competition: Deadline to Vote is Friday, March 16

Northwest High School is participating in a WTOP competition to win $10,000 for the school. The winner is the school that receives the most online votes by 5:00 pm this Friday, March 16.  To vote, please visit  One vote per person per day is permitted.


PTSA Meeting: Tuesday, March 20

There will be a PTSA meeting next Tuesday, March 20, at 7:00 pm in the media center.  The meeting will include a presentation on school safety and security, as well as an overview of the “Signs of Suicide Prevention Program” in which all students will participate this spring. 


Music Department Chipotle Fundraiser: Monday, March 12

Our music department is sponsoring a fundraiser tomorrow, Monday, March 12, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Chipotle on Century Boulevard in Germantown.  All you have to do is mention Northwest to the cashier, and the music department will receive 50 percent of the proceeds!


Booster Club Mulch Sale: Saturday, April 14

The Northwest High School Booster Club 19th Annual Mulch Sale is Saturday, April 14.  Large bags containing either brown or black shredded hardwood mulch are only $5.25.  Free delivery is provided for pre-orders of 15 bags or more, and the Northwest football team can spread the mulch for you on Sunday, April 15, for an additional $3.00 per bag.  For complete ordering information, please visit  Thank you in advance for your support, as 100 percent of the proceeds from the mulch sale benefit students at Northwest!


Cap and Gown Orders: Price Increases on Monday, April 2

Attention parents of seniors: Please remember to purchase your student’s cap and gown if you have not done so already.  The current price is $52, but it will increase to $62 on Monday, April 2.  Payments can be submitted online at  Also, please remember that all financial obligations must be cleared in order for students to participate in senior events, including senior banquet, prom and graduation.


Certificate of Meritorious Service: Deadline to Submit SSL Hours is Friday, April 6

The Certificate of Meritorious Service is awarded to seniors who have earned 260 or more SSL hours, and the deadline to submit SSL hours for this recognition is Friday, April 6.


Learner’s Permit Test at Northwest HS: Wednesday, March 21

Northwest High School is very excited to be partnering with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) to offer the learner’s permit test at 3:00 pm next Wednesday, March 21, in room 100 at Northwest High School.  Interested students must be at least 15 years and 9 months by March 21.  Permission forms may be picked up in the main office and must be returned to the main office no later than Tuesday, March 20 


If students pass the test, they will have to travel to an MVA office at a future date to obtain an actual learner’s permit.  However, we are offering this service at Northwest to make it more convenient for students to take the test in a familiar environment.  If you have questions about this, please contact Ms. Barbara Veirs in the Northwest High School Main Office at (301) 601-4660, or Ms. Monica Neupane at the MVA at (301) 956-1400.


AP Exam Registration

Supporting Northwest Through Amazon

Beginning tomorrow, Monday, March 12, and continuing through the end of March, Amazon is tripling the donation amount to the Northwest PTSA when customers make their eligible purchase at  All of the money raised through this effort is going to support After Prom.


Booster Club and PTSA Senior Scholarships: Application Deadline is Friday, April 6

Applications are now being accepted for the Northwest Booster Club and PTSA Scholarships.  Both organizations are awarding $500 scholarships to two Northwest seniors planning to attend two-year or four-year colleges or universities.  The deadline to apply is Friday, April 6.  For eligibility criteria and application requirements, please visit:

Supporting After Prom 2018

Northwest will once again host an all-night after prom party to keep our kids safe and off the roads on prom night! This incredible event includes food, games, DJ, entertainment, activities, tons of prizes and giveaways, and more! In order to make this event possible, we need to raise a significant amount of money. We encourage all families to donate $20.18 for 2018 (or any other amount) to support this amazing event! Choose Respect Conference: Sunday, April 15

All students and parents are encouraged to mark their calendars for 2018 Choose Respect Conference, the 9th annual conference on healthy teen dating. This free, fun-filled event will take place on Sunday, April 15, at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville.  There will be a resource fair from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, and then the conference will occur from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Free pizza will be provided to all participants at the end of the event.
