College Career High School Visits:

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields at their high school location.  Visits are usually held in the College Career Information Center (Room 126) during the school day.  Students with a valid Family Connection account are able to sign up to attend visits through their Family Connection account.  Passes are required and students should follow the instructions during the visit sign up to print their pass.  Staff signatures are required.  Visit schedules run daily on JAG TV, Family Connection and our event Google Calendar.  Find out more...

New Scholarship Post United States Naval Academy March 27 Spring Open House Event Announced Local congressmen and senators may also hold Academy events and will post event dates and details on their websites. | web post 13 March 18 |  

New Scholarship Post Black History Competition Announced!  Sponsored by the Maryland State Conference NAACP.  Competition entry deadline April 6.  Students in elementary through high school are invited to participate in this writing competition.  Competition monetary awards range from $50 to $100.  Students will write an essay on a specific prompt.  Click here for entry guidelines and information.  | web post 13 March 18 |

Reminder Notice Image The 2018 NACAC/MCPS College Fair Field Trip date announced!  Tuesday, April 10 Northwest High School will take buses of current juniors to the Montgomery County Agricultural Center for the annual college fair.  Over 300 colleges are expected to be in attendance!  Permission forms and $4 fee required to participate (MCPS students must attend with their high school during the school day).  Permission forms are available in the College Career Information Center and were distributed to juniors during registration.  Student Admit Pass, signed Permission Form and $4 fee will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all bus seats are filled.  Buses will leave Northwest at 9:45 and return by noon.  Participating students should plan to bring lunch the day of the field trip.  The college fair is open to the public on April 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  | web update 13 March 18 |

Reminder Notice Image  College Bound Young Ladies Only - HBCU College Tour Announced!   Monday, April 2 through Friday, April 6.  Sponsored by the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College Southern Maryland Chapter.  Tour cost is $499 (includes lodging, transportation, breakfast and lunch).  Tour stops include Virginia State U., Shaw U., Bennett College, North Carolina A&T U., Johnson C. Montgomery College Information:

Reminder Notice Image High school seniors applying to Montgomery College are encouraged to apply during the 'Application Fee Waiver' season that begins on October 1 and continues until April 15.  Seniors who would like to participate in the Accuplacer testing program with Northwest should be aware that it takes approximately 10 days for Montgomery College to generate the admission letters (mailed to the home) with the MC ID number required to take the Accuplacer.  | updated 28 Sept 17 |

Student planning to transfer to a 4-year post-secondary institution after MC are encouraged to use ARTSYS as part of their college planning.  ARTSYS is the State of Maryland Articulation Information website.  ARTSYS shows which MC courses are recommended for transferring to specific Maryland colleges and universities.

Montgomery College (MC), supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Graduate and Transfer Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Talent Expansion Program (GT STEP).  The program is designed to assist students who are majoring in STEM fields (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math) in acquiring their AA degree and/or facilitating their transfer to a 4-year college or university.  Program details and application can be found here.
