5th grade Chairs
5th graders study Structures in Science. Since a chair is a structure, we are learning about chairs in Art. The objectives for this lesson are:

1. For students to learn that the design of a chair is dependant upon the materials available

2. The design of a chair is dependant upon the use for which the chair is intended.

We are exploring a range of materials in class: toothpicks and marshmallows, clay, cardboard, and finally wire and fabric. Students will then choose materials for a final chair.
