Montgomery County Public Schools, Rockville, Maryland - Olney Elementary School

Join the fun this summer ...
Catch the Reading Bug!

bugs reading Mary Jane Heinbuch, librarian from the Olney Public Library, will visit Olney ES on June 11, 2008 to present the guidelines of this summer's reading program to the students and staff.  The theme this year is "Catch the Reading Bug ." Students may sign up for this program and receive their game board at any Montgomery County public library, from June 12th through July 21st. The program will end on August 21, 2008.

Each year public libraries nationwide sponsor a summer reading program that encourages children of all ages to read during non-school months. This reading incentive uses music, storytelling, magic, and other activities to show how entertaining reading can be. Game boards offer a way to chart the students' reading success and make them eligible to win prizes.  We hope that many OES students will take advantage of this free, local resource to practice the reading skills they've learned during the school year.

Remember to keep a log of all the books you read this summer.
(see link below) Your certificate of completion from the library or your personal reading log signed by a parent will be evidence that you "caught the reading bug". Last year we recognized 98 students at the first Renaissance assembly for accomplishing this worthwhile reading goal. We hope to increase this number in the summer of 2008. Are you up for the challenge?
