Some recent accomplishments by the great students at Rockville High school:


 

SUPERINTENDENT’S LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
ANNOUNCES CLASS OF 2009 PARTICIPANTS

Nyamagaga Gondwe and Katherine Broadhurst, have been named to The Superintendent’s Leadership Program. They were two of only 16 students selected from from among more than 45 candidates at Montgomery County high schools. The program is the only humanities oriented honors internship program in the county. The curriculum content and style is comparable to many college courses. Students in this program are selected for demonstrating outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and uncommon maturity within their schools and communities.

It's Academic Win

On Saturday, the Rams won their first It's Academic competition this year. The scores were: RHS with 510 points, Bullis with 320 points, and National Cathedral with 320 points. Splendid performances were given by Captain Greg Rind, Tyler Babich, and Raheel Awan in their first (but not last) time on television.The game will be televised November 29, 2008.

National AP Scholar

Josh Lerner, Rockville High School, Class of 2008 was awarded the "National AP Scholar" award, by the College Board. The National AP Scholar is Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all Advanced Placement Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

2008 Courage in Student Journalism Advisor Award

Mr. Peter Daddone, Rockville High School journalism teacher, and Dr. Munk, Rockville High School principal are being awarded the 2008 Courage in Student Journalism advisor's award in St. Louis on the same weekend as the student winners from Rockville Jaishri Shankar & Rachel Wagner. They will be traveling to St. Louis to accept the award.

AP Chinese Students Published in Local Chinese Newspapers

Xinghai Cai and Wenwu Hu, students in Mrs. Li's AP Chinese class, were published in the October 3rd issue of a local Chinese newspaper, A & C Business News. Their articles, written entirely in Chinese, discussed the recent trips to China taken by Dr. Munk and Mr. Garcia. The articles covered their impressions of China, the Chinese People, and the differences in the education systems of China and the United States.

Rockville Senior Selected for U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Senior Laura Weiss has been selected as one of 97 students nationwide to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school all-star football game in the nation. It features the nation's top high school senior football players and now, the finest high school senior marching musicians. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is aired on NBC in January from San Antonio, Texas. Laura will travel to San Antonio over Winter Break, all expenses paid, to take part in various activities and performances, including a halftime performance at the U.S. Army High School All-American Football Game! The organizers of this event are in the midst of a nationwide tour to honor each football player and band member to be designated as an All-American, and the tour will be here for an assembly at Rockville High School on October 22nd. Laura will be playing the mellophone in this ensemble.

Drug Facts Chat Day at Rockville High School

On Wednesday, October 8, Rockville High School participated in NIDA's
second-ever Drug Facts Chat Day Program. The event was covered by the
Associated Press (AP). Wendy Roit, one of our special education
teachers, brought the event to RHS. We are very proud that our students

Its Academic Team wins at the Big Train Tournament

On Thursday, September 25, the Rockville Its' Academic team traveled to Walter Johnson to play in the first scrimmage of the year at the Big Train Tournament. With no returning starters from last year's Metro Champion team, Rockville made a statement in the opener, going 3-1, with wins over Paint Branch, Magruder and Sherwood. The only loss was on the last question to Georgetown Day. Playing for the Rams were Asena Acar, Raheel Awan, Tyler Babich, Greg Rind and Erin Strosnider. Congratulations on a Big Start! Go Rams!

The 2007 Newsweek Challenge Index ranked Rockville #253 - up from #286 in 2006. Rockville High School was one of 8 MCPS schools to move up in the rankings.
