Morning Announcements, Friday, November 20, 2009
    WORD OF THE WEEK: Hyperbole - NOUN - exaggeration; overstatement

Don’t exaggerate. To say that this school is the worst one in the universe is nothing by hyperbole.

The Media Center will be open to students today. (Please repeat)

Today is the turkey trot, be ready to run. Everyone will be going outside today, so dress appropriately. Announcements will be made at 2:30 with the results from the turkey trot. All turkeys and T-shirts can be picked up by the front entrance at the end of the day.

Attention Mrs. Martin’s 6th graders: you will come to PE right after 3rd period today, do NOT go to lunch. (Repeat) You will eat lunch after PE today.

Calling all actors, singers and dancers – auditions are coming for our incredible spring musical, Beauty and the Beast. Audition packets and dates are posted in the cafeteria. There will be an optional preparation session on Tues. Nov. 24th from 3-4 p.m. for anyone who wants to learn and practice the audition material over Thanksgiving break. Wear or bring clothes and shoes that you can move in.

1..2..3 Say Cheese! This is a reminder that Today is Staff and Student Portrait Make-up day. If you were absent for staff and student portraits in October, then you must do your make-up today. A photographers will be taking portraits on the stage in the dining room. If students want to retake their portraits, then they must bring their original portrait package with them.Sixth grade students who need to complete make-ups should come down during 1st period, 8th grade students during 2nd period and 7th grade students during 3rd period. Teachers can check email for a list of students needing to complete make-ups due to absenteeism. Teachers, please allow students to use their portrait packages as their passes to come down to the cafeteria for their retakes. If students have any questions, they should stop by the main office during lunch.

Today is the final day for the canned food drive! Please turn in any cans that you have to your Connect time teacher (not your math connect teacher, but the teacher you see on Wednesdays) today. The number of cans collected by the Connect Time classes and the Chorus classes will be announced next week along with the Connect Time class that has won the donut party. The donut party will be on Tuesday, November 24th for the winning class. Both the Leo Club and Mr. Bowden’s Chorus classes thank you all for your participation in this very good cause!  11/20/09

The Media Center will be closed to students today and Friday. This includes before and after school. If you want to return a book, look for Media Center staff by the front door to take them for you. ( Please repeat)

Attention, any people who have signed up to run in the turkey trot tomorrow….Mrs. Martin and Mr. Thomas will be taking you for a walk along the course today during each lunch period. If you have signed up, get your lunch QUICKLY and meet your teachers in the PE hallway today. This will be your only chance to learn the course before you run on Friday. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Martin or Mr. Thomas.

Good Morning 8th grade students and staff, Today, the 8th grade class will be having our first awards assembly to recognize students who were academically successful during the 1st quarter. We will call students down after morning announcements at approximately 8:05.

The school store will be opened today during all lunches.

Staff, please allow students who are running in the turkey trot to come down to PE during their lunch time to walk the course today. These students do not have a pass.

Today, a photographer from Blanton Studios will be coming around to various classrooms to take candid pictures for the yearbook. Thank you for welcoming the photographer into your classrooms.  11/19/09

Attention: 7th and 8th students: Basketball tryouts will begin tomorrow, Thursday, November 19th. To try out you must have an up to date physical form and signed parent permission slip on file with Mr. Thomas by tomorrow, Thursday, November 19th. See Mr. Thomas with questions.

Attention all students and staff. Our Bonus Card contest has begun. For the Connect Time class that turns in the most Giant or Safeway Bonus Club numbers, your class will win a Pizza Party or for the lucky student you will receive cookie certificates. Bonus Card flyers were distributed in Connect Time last week; extra forms are in the main office.

Intramural flag football is today. Stay after school and play football. Sign up in the dining room, you must sign up to stay!!

It’s only 1 ¼ miles—many of you can run more than that…..AND it will be challenging and fun! Come out and run for fun, to reach a goal, or to win the ultimate prize. You MUST sign up in the PE locker rooms or in Mrs. Jaskolski’s room by the end of the day or you may not run.
