Dear Sligo Creek Parents and Friends,

Our first week of school was the smoothest in the history of the school by all accounts. We expect every day to be smoother as students learn where their classrooms are, what bus they ride and the expectations throughout the building.

This year we will continue our positive reward system for classes throughout the building.  Classes  will receive a Green Ticket for behavior. A principal’s banner will be presented to a class at every grade level every week as an incentive to make good choices.  Our focus is respecting ourselves, respecting others and respecting property.  Posters will be placed throughout the building to remind students as to what the expectations are.  We also will continue our incentive system for using and keeping the bathrooms orderly.

Our instructional day begins at 9:15 promptly.  Your child should arrive by 9:00 to allow time to get to class, take care of morning business and be ready to begin the day at 9:15.  Children should not arrive before 8:50 a.m. under any circumstances.  There is no one to supervise students.  Please make sure that you have arrangements for your child if they arrive before that time.  Students arriving after 9:15 a.m. are considered late to school and should report to the office for a late slip. We will make daily calls to homes of students who are tardy and absent.

If your child is going home with a friend or if there are different arrangements for going home or for an early dismissal, please send in a note to your child’s teacher that morning.  In the past, we have spent a great deal of time trying to let students know that arrangements have changed.  Our classroom instructional time is interrupted and there is the chance that we cannot get to your child, especially at the end of the day.  Please, please take the responsibility for informing your child and sending a note regarding travel arrangements.

Some changes have been made in our cafeteria procedure.  You may continue to put money on your child’s cafeteria account as in the past.  Students will be allowed to overdraw their account by $10.00. After they have overdrawn by that amount, students will receive a cheese sandwich and will be charged $.25 for the sandwich. It is important to keep money in your child’s account if you want your child to have a hot lunch.

We will receive a parent handbook in the near future.  Additional information will be coming home on Friday as well. Please take a moment every Friday to check what has been sent home.  Our new website will be up and running in the very near future.  This will be a tremendous help with a quick communication link to you.  We send out notices and information frequently through eschoolnewsletter.com.  Please sign up to receive information from us.

We look forward to the coming year and working with you and your family.  Thank you for your suggestions, support and encouragements as we move into the school year.

Sincerely,

Diantha R. Swift
