SECOND GRADE SIGNAL CARDS
In Second Grade we have 4 categories of classroom rules:
- we will cooperate
- we will be safe
- we will respect each other
- we will respect each other's property
We have discussed ways to improve the working atmosphere of our classroom. Through the use of color coded cards, the students have a visual way to keep their behavior in check. When a child's behavior interferes with their own learning or that of a classmate's, the child is asked to turn a card. The cards are sequenced like the colors of a signal light and represent the following:
- GREEN - Go with your good behavior.
- YELLOW - Warning! Check your behavior.
- RED - Stop! This is your second warning. Lose 15 minutes of recess.
- WHITE - Serious offense. You have received 3 warnings or you have been involved in a behavior requiring immediate intervention. Lose all of recess.
Accumulation of 3 white cards requires the teacher to notify the parent of the student's behavior.
Each day, all students begin the day on green. Those students who remain on green for the entire day, receive a sticker reward for good behavior. The signal card system is one way to help children take responsibility for their own behavior. Please encourage your child to have a "GREEN" day!!
