Nominees for Next Year's PTA Executive Board

President ~ Debbie Mettam

I am pleased to accept the nomination to serve as PTA President for next year. It has been a privilege to be able to fill the term vacated by the previous president and I would greatly enjoy the opportunity to serve a second year. My husband, Bob, and I have lived on Carona Drive since 1997. Our daughter, Katie, is in first grade and a 23-year-old stepdaughter lives and works in Baltimore. Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom in 2000, as Chartered Financial Analyst, I was an investment portfolio manager for a large pension fund. I believe that the Stonegate PTA has many excellent programs that provide the students and teachers with needed extra resources for learning and fun. Our job is to maximize the value of these activities and to involve as many parents and students in our programs as possible. Increased membership and an awareness of what the PTA is and what it does would be my goal for the coming year.

Vice President of Operations and Administration ~Tammy Forsyth

I am honored to be nominated for the Vice President of Operations and Administration. Currently as Corresponding Secretary, I have been executing most of the responsibilities of this position. I am responsible for securing the rooms for PTA events and have taken the required ICB training. I have assisted in developing the procedures put into place this year by the Executive Board. I have spent numerous hours in research for the standing rules, nominating committee packet, committee chair packet and the many PTA forms in the packet. I have attended PTA training sessions and have completed the National PTA online training course. I am dedicated to the Mission and Purpose of the PTA and hope to help develop more parent/dad involvement, focus more on educational & science programs/activities for ALL the Stonegate children, promote the welfare, fitness and nutrition for ALL the Stonegate children. I am a stay at home mom with an excellent support system to dedicate the hours needed to do this position.

Vice President of Education and Programs ~ Crystal Lee

I am pleased to accept the nomination to serve as the Vice President of Education and Programs. I firmly believe that I possess the requisite attributes to perform effectively as the Vice President of Education and Programs. I am committed, dedicated, disciplined, and passionate about supporting the PTA's mission of promoting the welfare of our children. I am open-minded, receptive, fair, team player and an effective facilitator - necessary qualities when collaborating with participants of diverse interests and opinions. I am the current vice president and a former acting president. I have successfully completed several PTA-sponsored training seminars and workshops which have greatly prepared me for PTA service. My service this past year has been both educational and gratifying. I hope you will agree that my contributions have been beneficial to the students and this PTA thus ensuring children enjoy the highest-quality and most meaningful educational experience at Stonegate Elementary School.

Treasurer ~ Maqueda Brown

It is with great enthusiasm that I accept the nomination for PTA. Since becoming Treasurer last year, I have had the opportunity to serve the PTA using skills from my professional background as a Finance Director and an Auditor. I was able to use those skills to update the PTA's chart of accounts so that actual Revenue and Expenses could easily be tracked using the chart of accounts. This provided the membership with a more detailed and accurate perspective of the PTA's finances. I have also been able to easily streamline the daily and monthly procedures that are required as Treasurer, producing results in a timely and accurate fashion. I would like to continue as Treasurer because I strongly believe that continuity should be a factor when deciding on a candidate. When I became Treasurer in October, I decided that I would want to stay in this position as long as possible because of my commitment to serving the PTA. As I come to the end of my term as Treasurer, I am looking ahead with anticipation as I would also like to have the opportunity to see the FY07-08 Budget that will be created under my leadership carried out.

Recording Secretary ~ Kathleen Malloy

My son, Ryan Cleaver, is in Mrs. Teeter's first grade class. I grew up in Washington and Maryland and attended American University. I have lived in Stonegate for 15 years. I am the lead paralegal in the legal department at Host Hotels & Resorts in Bethesda. One of my functions there is to record the minutes of our disclosure committee meetings and at our annual meeting. This year I helped revise our PTA bylaws and next year I am the co-chair for bingo night.

Corresponding Secretary ~ Kimberly Wilson

My name is Kimberly Wilson. My husband, Bill and I have two boys -- Jacob, a 2nd grader at Stonegate, and Joshua, a preschooler. I have been actively involved with Stonegate Elementary for the past three years, both on the PTA and as a volunteer in the classroom. In my career, I work as a project manager and analyst. I believe that the organizational and problem solving skills that I employ on the job would be an asset to the position I am seeking on the board. More importantly, I love to see children achieve their maximum potential. As a member of the board, you can be certain that I will continue to be committed to helping our children get the best experience possible here at Stonegate.
