School Policies / Stonegate School-odex / Bus Routes
School Hours
School hours are 8:50 am - 3:05 pm. The bell rings at 8:45 am, at which time all students should be present. Children should not arrive at the school before 8:30 am. On early release days, students are released at 12:35 pm.
The school office is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you need to call other than this time, please leave a message on the answering machine, giving your child's name and teacher.
Breakfast & Lunch
Breakfast: Children may purchase breakfast from 8:35-8:50 a.m. for $1.30.
Lunch: Lunch is $2.40 and milk is 60 cents. Juice and ice cream will remain 50 cents. Please make sure there is a minimum of $10.00 in each child's SNAP account. You can print the SNAP prepayment form here. Please make checks payable to Stonegate School Cafeteria.
Safety/Transportation
Please remember that the front of the school is a PICK-UP/DROP-OFF LOOP ONLY. NO PARKING IN THE LOOP!
Students may not ride buses other than the bus to which they are assigned. Non-bus students (walkers) are not permitted to ride the buses. For your child's safety, the school office must have a note from you if your child's after-school arrangements change. Students may not change their own dismissal schedule without parental permission.
If you need to park your car, please park on Notley Road. The school parking lot located to the left of the building is often full. To keep the parking lot clear for buses, do not use this parking lot between 8:30 and 9:15 or between 2:40 and 3:15 p.m.
Absence
Parents are asked to call the school by 9:00 am if their child will be absent or arrive late. In addition, a written explanation of each student's absence is required from the parent when the child returns to school The request for students to leave at a time other than regular dismissal time must always be made in writing by the parent/guardian.
Delayed Opening / Early Dismissal / Closing of School
If schools open late or dismiss early, the time and instructions regarding kindergarten through grade five will be announced promptly and regularly on radio and television. If schools open two hours late, buses will arrive at their pick-up points two hours later than normal. Classes will begin two hours later than their usual beginning time (10:50 am).
All day or early closings will automatically cancel all afternoon and evening activities in the school.
Report Cards and Conferences
Kindergarten report cards are distributed twice each year, in February and June. Report cards for Grades 1-5 are distributed four times each year - November, February, April and June.
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for November 11 and 12. If you want to arrange a conference with a teacher or principal at other times during the year, please schedule them in advance.
School Facilities
Telephone: Please use the phone located in the hallway in front of the office. Local calls only. Dial 9 for an outside line.
Volunteer Information
Signing In and Out and Tracking Your Volunteer Hours: All visitors must check in at the office upon arrival and wear a visitor's badge, even if you're just running into the school for a few minutes.
Sign the Visitor's Log. Volunteers must sign in at the office and wear a badge as well. Record time in and out and hours served in the Volunteer Sign-In Log.
Volunteers are considered agents of the local Board of Education for the limited purpose of comprehensive liability insurance and workmen's compensation coverage while on school property.
Please keep track of hours spent at home and either record them in the school volunteer log or keep a log at home, and add it to the Volunteer Log at the end of the year. Click here to get a printable form. Hours spent volunteering are provided to the School Superintendent's office. Our school can be recognized by the State of Maryland for outstanding volunteerism if we track our hours accurately.
PTA volunteer badges are stuck to the bulletin board in the copy machine room.
Notification of Absence: If you are scheduled to volunteer for an activity and can't make it, please try to call at least 24 hours in advance. Please leave a message with the school secretary with the name of the teacher you were scheduled to help and the time you were expected.
Copier Protocol
If you spend any time in the workroom, you'll quickly notice that the copier is in high demand! Stonegate staff members have priority over PTA members for copier usage. If you're copying for a teacher for immediate use, then you are treated with the same priority as if you are the teacher. If you use up all the paper in the copier, please replace it. If you use up the toner, be sure to tell the front office staff. If you're unlucky enough to have a paper jam, be sure to ask for help in clearing the machine if you're unable to clear it by yourself. And, finally, if you're doing copying after school and you run into any of these problems, please write a note for the front office staff so they are aware when they come in the next day. No codes are required for using the copy machine.
PTA Flyers
You can distribute PTA flyers into the staff boxes on any day of the week, but they are usually sent home by the teachers in the Friday folders. (Some teachers choose to send them home sooner, however.) If each Stonegate family needs only one copy (as opposed to each Stonegate student needing a copy), ask Mrs. Tegethoff for a count that considers "Youngest in Family." Always make 25 extra copies of your notice to be kept in the rack outside the front office.
Lost and Found
Please label all student belongings, i.e., lunchboxes, backpacks, sweaters, jackets, coats, hats, books. Lost and found items will be stored onthe racks at the bottom of the rear staircase. Items will be eventually donated to charity, so if you think your child has lost something at school, check lost and found!
Safety and Security
Fire Drill Procedure: If you are with a student outside of a classroom when a fire drill happens, proceed directly outside and then look for the student's class. Do NOT go back to the student's classroom.
Code Red/Code Blue Procedures: In the event of a Code Red or Code Blue drill, proceed to the closest classroom and adhere to the directions from the classroom teacher. If you are with students, accompany them to the closest classroom-NOT to the student's classroom.
