Stonegate Elementary School
Internet, Webpage, & Videotape Policy
As a part of instructional research and curriculum enrichment, students at Stonegate utilize the Internet. MCPS has initiated a technology protection measure which blocks children from visual depictions that are obscene, contain child pornography or are harmful to minors. This has been done to comply with The Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA). More information about this can be found on the MCPS website.
At Stonegate, use of the Internet is password protected, which means that no student has access to the Internet without an adult typing in the password. This guarantees that an adult is supervising while the Internet is being used. Once students are on-line, access to web sites will usually be made through use of predetermined bookmarks or search tools created for children. All students are being instructed to use the Internet for instructional purposes.
The Stonegate Web Page is designed to be a showcase for student work and to highlight events going on in the school. Only students' first names are used on the web page. An effort is made to minimize the use of photos on the web page that are of individuals or that aid in identification.
* Discuss with your child the importance of honoring passwords and following the teacher guided rules for using the Internet. Any student who does not comply with researching for instructional purposes will have his/her privileges revoked and parents will be notified.
Videotapes may be made as part of the educational program here at Stonegate. For example, a student can analyze his/her oral book report presentation. Videotapes are never made for commercial purposes.
