Stone Mill Expectations

When Principal Kim Williams took the school's helm in the fall of 2001, she conveyed her expectations for each and every student in the school. The "Stone Mill Expectations" have since become a mantra that the students recite each day before they begin their studies. Stone Mill staff members work closely with the children to assist them in becoming exemplary students and citizens, through emphasis on these expectations, in conjunction with the Pillars of Character in the Character Counts! Program.

My school, my family and I expect my very best today, so today I will:

  • Be kind in my words and actions
  • Be honest and make good choices
  • Follow school rules and be a good friend
  • Take responsibility for myself and my learning
School Performance
The Maryland Board of Education provides online data on the performance of all schools in the state. Before viewing the data, it may be prudent to review the introduction, which will aid in interpreting the information.

MCPS Curriculum
MCPS provides on-line documents which address the core curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade students. Although teachers at Stone Mill must follow these curricula, they have access to many resources, methods and tools they may utilize to teach it. Most teachers base their teaching methods on past experience, the characteristics of their students and the successes of their peers. In-depth curriculum information is available in guides located in the Montgomery County Public School's professional library and in individual school buildings.

Preschool Education Program (PEP)
Our building continues to host PEP classes during the 2007-2008 school year. All children in PEP have Individualized Education Plans (IEP) with learning goals and objectives based on needs identified through formal testing. PEP Beginnings serves children with significant physical and/or cognitive disabilities in a five hour, five day per week program. PEP Intensive Needs Class (PEP INC) serves children with severe communication and sensory integration needs in a structured, play-based class with related services integrated into the classroom.
