Takoma Park Middle School PTA

The TPMS PTA keeps parents informed, encourages parent participation, and organizes volunteers to support TPMS staff in the education of our children. This year's PTA is aiming for 100 percent of parents and teachers to pay their PTA dues. The PTA needs active representation of the diversity that enriches our school. The PTA is your organization, and your ideas are welcome. Let PTA leaders know what kinds of activities you want for your child's school, and then join in to organize them. Membership forms are available from the main office and on-line.

PTA Minigrants

Teachers at Takoma Park Middle School may apply for minigrants from the TPMS PTA. The form is available on-line or in the school office.

PTA Meetings

The TPMS PTA will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the school. Each meeting will include a business meeting and a principal's report. Some meetings will also feature a speaker or other topical focus of interest to parents and teachers. These will be announced in the monthly PTA calendars that will arrive home by backpack and on the PTA e-list. PTA meetings are open to all middle school parents/guardians and TPMS staff. The PTA also convenes grade-level meetings each fall (and again in the spring depending upon interest) to give parents a chance to discuss grade-specific issues.

Communications

The Student Directory is compiled each fall once enrollment stabilizes. In addition, the TPMS PTA maintains two email lists that are an efficient way to share information in a
timely way.
To join the announcement list, send a message to:

Volunteers

Parents, teachers, and community members volunteer in many different capacities through the PTA. When you join the PTA, please note your interest areas on the membership form. PTA coordinators will use this information to match parent volunteers to specific school needs. You are welcome to call the PTA officers, grade level representatives, or committee chairs to talk about ways you can become more involved. Your investment of time and energy determines how much the PTA can do for TPMS. Volunteer Forms are available from the PTA or on-line.

Volunteer Hours Submission Form
Please use this form to enter your hours spent volunteering for TPMS.  We would love to thank you for your help and MCPS requires us to keep track of hours.

Fund Raising and Membership

All families are invited to join the PTA. Membership is $10 for individuals and $20 for families. (The TPMS PTA pays $2.75 of each member's dues to the state/national PTA). In recent years, the PTA did not sponsor major fund raising activities, depending instead on membership dues and donations. (Please consider a generous donation, along with your dues.) This year's PTA will evaluate whether to reinstate other fund raising activities to supplement the amount received through membership dues and donations. Please come share your ideas!  Membership forms are available from the main office and on-line.

Also, we have several ways to support TPMS 'painlessly' see the Painless Fundraising Flyer for details.

Special Announcements

WAKE UP is a voluntary group of parents, students, and teachers in Montgomery County working to prevent teenage sleep deprivation through education and changing school schedules. With current high school starting times, our children do not get enough sleep, are less alert in class, and cannot receive the full benefits of their high school education. To learn about the issue and WAKE UP, visit the group's web site at http://patesslinger.com/wakeup/emailnet.html .
