High School Assessments

Beginning with the Class of 2009, students will be required to pass the four High School Assessments (HSAs) in English, Algebra/Data Analysis, Biology, and Government to earn a Maryland high school diploma. 

This school year, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is implementing several significant changes to the HSA graduation requirement.  MSDE plans to implement the Bridge Plan for Academic Validation, the Modified High School Assessment, and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate substitute test scores as new pathways for students to meet the HSA graduation requirement. 

In addition, MSDE has discontinued minimum scores.  Students can now meet the HSA graduation requirement by earning the combined score of 1602 points or higher when they take all four HSAs.
