Physical Education News

November 2009

The Halloween Young Run was a wonderful success thanks to the hundreds of Wayside students that participated. Wayside had an estimated 240 students or about 40% of our student population participate in the run.

Throughout the second marking period, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students will be focusing on identifying and demonstrating concepts involving relationships with objects (over/under, in front/behind, as well as near/far). Students will also begin engaging in throwing activities and become proficient in underhand throwing and catching.

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will also be engaging in activities that will lead to proficiency in overhand throwing and catching. Students will be able to verbally and visually identify the cues that are necessary to become proficient. Grades 3, 4, and 5 will also be demonstrating skills related to volleying, juggling, and dribbling with hands.
