November 2009At this season of thanksgiving, I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the loving support of the outstanding PTA and the school community at large. Wayside is a great place to teach and learn. Teachers are world class and students come to school ready to learn. I feel very blessed to be part of the community. I would also like to thank you for your participation in the Halloween Young Run. Mr. Keys did a wonderful job of encouraging our student’s to participate and make a healthy life style a choice for all of us. Finally, thanks to the PTA for all the food and fun provided at the School Picnic. Your efforts and dedication to making Wayside a wonderful place to be is much appreciated. We had a wonderful turnout for our parent visitation. I hope that all of you got a chance to get a glimpse of all the wonderful work our teachers and students do everyday. Some parents have shared their wish to view the remainder of their child’s day. Please know that you are always welcome to call and make appointments with your teacher if you would like to visit and see the afternoon portion of the day. We’d love to have you. The turnout for the Reading Night was record breaking! I hope you found the information about our reading program informative. As an important member of the community and a vital stakeholder in the school, it was very important to me to get your feedback and input about Wayside Elementary School’s instructional program. I truly appreciated your time, effort, and commitment to making Wayside a wonderful school in which to work and learn. As a follow up to our Reading night, Mrs. Eisenberg and Mrs. Grosso have created a new reading page on our school website to better inform you about our reading program. As we all know, parents and teachers need to collaborate to improve student achievement and school performance. It is of utmost importance that both families and schools are not only active participants but are wise, careful, and conscientious participants when making decisions about the education of our children. One of our most important shared goals must be to improve the academic performance and the socioemotional development of our children. Both are equally important. Parents and teacher alike must remember the reason for meeting is to share ideas that will help the child achieve his/her highest level of academic success and to have a positive and rewarding year in school. As we look forward to our teacher-parent conferences, here are some things to remember: Think about questions to ask before the meeting and write them down. If the time is not convenient, call the school to arrange another appointment. Contact the school in advance if you need an interpreter, or bring someone who can interpret for you. Arrange to leave very young children with a friend for babysitter if at all possible. This will allow you to focus on the conference. Share your child’s interest and abilities. Find out how you as parents can support your child at home. Be on time for the conference. I challenge you to talk with your children about what makes them excited about coming to school – what do they like and not like. How do they feel when they are successful in school? What do they do when they are not successful? These are powerful questions, and we can all learn a great deal of information from these questions. At our next PTA meeting, Mrs. Averill will provide information that will support parents as they help their children navigate school. Please look forward to receiving a Connect-Ed message regarding this matter. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Recent Updates for Parents: |
