Ms. Lane wins arts integration award

The Alvin and Louise Myerberg Arts Leadership Recognition Awards ceremony was held November 2, 2016, at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.  This event was hosted by the Arts Education in Maryland Schools Alliance.  This year, MCPS nominated Jennifer Lane, the principal at Westbrook ES, for her appreciation and understanding of the intrinsic value of the arts and the opportunities that the arts teach to the whole child.  Under Ms. Lane’s leadership, all of her teachers have learned to incorporate artist practices into their teaching, embracing the school’s mission to support students’ academic excellence, learn with and through the arts, and demonstrate a commitment to valuing the environment and natural world.

There were 15 principals nominated across seven Maryland jurisdictions for this award.  Ms. Lane was one of three principals named Outstanding Leaders in Arts Education.  As one of the award winners, Ms. Lane received a trophy and a monetary gift to support her arts program.  The two other winners were Christopher Rattay from Howard County and Abbey Campbell from Baltimore County.
