APPROVALS AND REPORTING AT WHITMAN

BEFORE YOU VOLUNTEER

Is the organization pre-approved?
At www.mcpsssl.org, look in the blue box for pre-approved organizations .

If the organization and activity is on the list, go ahead and volunteer. No forms are needed to start.

How do I get approval for organizations not on the approved list?

1. Download and complete an approval form called the Request for Student Service Learning Pre-Approval form or get a copy from the wall outside the Transcript Office, inside Room A119. Have the form signed by your supervisor at the organization sponsoring your work before you volunteer. A faxed signature is OK.
2. Photocopy the form for your records.
3. Give the original or the fax to Ms. Katz and she will often review it while you wait. The best time to see her is during lunch or after school. If she is not there, slide it under her door or leave it on her desk. Then, see her the next day and pick up your form.Save the form -- you will need it when you report your hours.
Or
3. During the summer, contact Ms. Pam Meador, MCPS SSL Coordinator. The form can be mailed, faxed or dropped off but ask first which way she prefers based on her schedule. Call 301-279-3454.

Ms. Steward(or Ms. Meador in summer) must sign your approval form before you volunteer to get credit for your SSL work.

6. Give the original or the fax to Ms. Katz, slide it under her door, or leave it on her desk, attach the approval form if you were required to have one.
