WJ DOES NOT ACCEPT WALK-IN TESTERS

Students must bring a calculator, with extra batteries, and pencils to their assigned test rooms.
Sophomores and Juniors must also bring photo identification.

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, the PSAT, familiarizes students with the format of the Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT. The exam measures verbal and mathematical abilities important in college planning, gives students an idea of what the SAT will be like and forecasts SAT scores.

This year, all eleventh and tenth grade students are required to take the official 2009 PSAT exam, for which there is no fee or registration procedure, which will be scored by Educational Testing Service. Juniors whose PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Selection Index scores are high and who meet all requirements for participating in National Merit Scholarship programs will be considered for recognition and scholarships.

Ninth grade students will take a practice PSAT exam.

Accommodations: Students needing testing accommodations for the official PSAT must have prior approval by the College Board in order to receive them. Information about receiving testing accommodations is available on the College Board website by clicking "About Accommodations" at left. Counselors are available to answer questions and help families understand the College Board application process for testing accommodations. Students who have already been approved for accommodations on other College Board exams (AP, SAT, etc.) do not need to re-apply.

Locations: Student room assignments are posted here and throughout the building. Students should locate their assigned testing locations prior to the morning of October 14th. Students must bring pencils and a calculator with extra batteries to their assigned test rooms. Sophomores and Juniors must also bring photo identification.

Scores: Exam scores for all students taking the Official PSAT will be distributed through Social Studies classes. Juniors will receive their scores on December 14th and sophomores on December 15th. There will be an evening session for students and parents, hosted by Counseling Services, on December 16, 2009, 7:00 p.m. in the WJ Cafeteria. Freshmen will receive their scores at the meeting and all attendees will receive information on how to interpret PSAT results as they relate to the SAT exam. Freshman who do not attend the meeting on the 16th can get their PSAT scores from their counselors.
