Junior Great Books: The Woodfield PTA is proud to again offer a Jr. Great Books program to 1st through 5th graders. Jr. Great Books is a program designed to make reading fun and encourage children to verbally participate in discussions of the stories. The discussions are centered around open-ended questions which have no "real" answers and are designed to lead students to a deeper understanding of the text, as well as gain confidence in developing and expressing their own views of the story. The groups meet during lunch (not recess) in the gym. A story is read aloud the first week by the parent volunteer, and the following week the children discuss the story. There is no homework, other than rereading the story once. The program runs approximately 12 weeks, starting after the winter break. For more information on this program, please see their website: http://www.greatbooks.org/

Reflections Art Program: The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education. To see some of the past works of art, please check out this website: http://www.pta.org/local_leadership_subprogram_1116958614281.html
