A Message From Mrs. Starr
Please join us on Thursday, October 22nd when Kindergarten – Grade 2 will be holding their curriculum night beginning at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 8:15 p.m. and/or Thursday, October 29th when Grades 3 through Grade 5 will hold their curriculum night beginning at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 8:15 p.m. This provides you with an excellent opportunity to become better informed about the curriculum that your child will be learning this year. It will also provide you with information to help you assist your child at home with homework and strategies to foster learning specific curriculum. Some of you have stated that you have more than one child in the grades that are meeting on a specific night. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to that dilemma. This is the case with many families in all the grade levels. It is necessary to have grades 3-5 meet on the same night because students cross grade levels for instruction in math. If only one parent is available to attend, then I would suggest picking the session that will be most beneficial for you to support your child in the subject area that they need most. Each grade level should be sending home a more detailed agenda so you can make those choices. The staff is always available to send any materials shared that evening with you and to answer any questions whenever they arise.
Curriculum Nights- October 22nd (Kindergarten- Grade 2)
and October 29th (Grades 3-5) 7:00 p.m.
Unfortunately, Bar T is unable to provide childcare.
Open House
Open House was held on October 12th. Thanks to all who visited. I hope that you found the experience a rewarding one.
Thank you for sharing your time with us!
No school on Friday, October 16th!! - MSTA Convetion for staff

After school Club and Activity Bus!!
The after school activity bus began running on Thursday, October 15th . The activity bus is scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students will leave school, if they are riding the bus, at 4:15 p.m. Only students who ride a school bus to and from school are allowed to use the activity bus. Various activities are planned during the period between October 15th and March 4th. Some of these are by invitation only because they are used as intervention programs to support the needs of students. Others, starting at various times during this period, will not be invitation only but may be limited to certain grade levels club. If you are interested in creating a special activity for the students after school and are willing to volunteer your services for these clubs described above or sponsoring a club after school activity, please call me.
This bus may also be used for students who may need to stay after school to receive support from their classroom teacher. However, no child should ever stay at school for this assistance without prior arrangements being made with the teacher. Teachers’ schedules and demands really vary from teacher to teacher so prior appointments are necessary.
Please note the following activity bus schedule and keep in mind that these are merely estimated times of arrival:

Please remember that students are asked not to wear any costumes that the younger students in the building may find scary or bring any sort of weapon. No students are allowed to wear costumes before 1:30 p.m. Students are not allowed to wear face make-up in the mornings. Students will dress in regular school clothes in the morning as we follow a regular morning schedule. Please also note that costumes should not block student’s vision and should be easy to get into. We look forward to seeing you at our Halloween parade!
Welcome back to Mrs. Lisa Narges, 4th grade teacher, returning from childcare leave. A big thank you to Kathleen Culbertson, who was Mrs. Narges’ long-term substitute. Mrs. Culbertson did a wonderful job!

School Walk for Diabetes
On Tuesday, October 20, 2009, Woodfield Elementary School will host its fifth annual School Walk for Diabetes during recess. School Walk for Diabetes is an educational fundraising program of the American Diabetes Association that teaches students the benefits of making healthy life choices, including getting daily exercise and eating nutritious foods. All funds raised will help the American Diabetes Association search for a cure and help those with diabetes. There is no charge to participate in the walk, but all students must have a signed permission slip. We encourage all students to participate. Come out and show your support for those students, parents, relatives, and friends that have diabetes. It will be a fun day for all! For more information or to help on the day of the walk, email Suzan Hoefler (suzanne.hoefler@gmail.com) or Pam Clay (PJCLAY44@msn.com). Thank you!

The leaders in each grade are: Mrs. Lindsey, Mrs. Paciotti, Mrs. Buteau, Mrs. Meiklejohn, Mrs. Narges, and Mrs. Walsleben. Remember that every coupon makes a difference so please check your pantry every week and turn them in to your classroom. Check out the orange poster hanging next to the rainbow to see how your class is doing. New totals will be posted every Monday morning.
