A Message From Mrs. Starr
Last Friday night was an exciting evening, full with good family and friend time. It began with the walk for the track around the school building for 45 minutes and ended with good food, raffle winners and moon bouncers. Thanks so making this event so successful. Thanks to all who organized this important night that was coordinated by Tina Atkinson and Sandy McDarby. Others who helped with this event were Julie Ates, Mindy Conway, Kim Garrison, Cora Horst, Siobhan Kopp, Marianna Osterman, and Sue Wood. Another thank you goes to all the 5th Grade parents who ran a delicious food stand for the evening. As I write this article, our track is in the process of being resurfaced. Hopefully, it should soon be ready for business. This would not have been possible without a determined team having a vision and setting out to make that vision come true.
We had such beautiful weather for Halloween. The parade was so much fun! The parties were loaded with goodies, lots of gooey stuff, pictures and frames, bingo, and loads of toilet paper for mummies. We greatly appreciate all the wonderful homeroom parents and volunteers who helped make this a special day. The students loved it!!
Sally Foster Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who helped in making our Sally Foster Fundraiser such a success. This year we made over $9,000.00! A special thanks to chairperson Laura Gallahan for all her hard work. Also to Melanie Smith, Tracy Rogers, Julie Torrence, Annika Mog, Suzanne Elbaum, Heather Gottfredson, Heather Smith and Cheryl Greene for helping the distribution go so smooth!

School Walk for Diabetes
Woodfield Elementary School students raised $6,267.00 dollars for the American Diabetes Association! This is truly amazing given the many fund raising events going on this fall! The Dimes for Diabetes campaign was very successful and brought in $330. This year our top fund raiser was Kendall Hoefler who raised $1,560! As well as recognizing the efforts of the top fund raiser with a gift certificate to All American Bicycle, we will also recognize the top fund raiser in each grade with a gift from the American Diabetes Association. Additionally, in 5 to 6 weeks those who raised five dollars or more will be receiving the prizes they earned from the ADA. We had a total of 157 students participate in the walk with Mrs. Smith’s class, once again, having the largest class participation. Suzan Hoefler and Pam Clay would like to thank all the students who participated in he walk and thank everyone for their generous donations. Again, many thanks to all the great volunteers who helped us make this walk so much fun!
Native Hardwood Seed Collection
Thank you to all the students and parents who gathered nuts for seedlings to grow trees in Maryland. There were many different types of seed collected for this very special project.
Fall Screening of Students New to MCPS
During the fall, all students who are new to MCPS in grades 3, 4 and 5 will participate in a Gifted and Talented screening process. The goal of this process is to recognize those students whose performance, motivation or potential ability indicate the need for accelerated and enriched instruction. The process involves information from a variety of sources. Every parent/guardian of students new to MCPS in grades 3, 4 and 5 will receive a parent questionnaire. Please contact Patricia Calvin or Holly Walker, the GT Liaisons at 301-253-7085 if you have any questions.
Morning Arrival
If your child walks to school or is driven to school, please make sure that he/she does not arrive to school until 8:30 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., students are allowed to enter the gym for line-up. Prior to 8:30 a.m., there are no staff members available who can be asked to supervise in the gym. We cannot have students unsupervised in the gym prior to that established time. Please contact me if you have any concerns regarding this matter.
Friday is always School Spirit Day. Wear your Woodfield clothes or blue and white.
