A Message From Mrs. Starr
Please note this memorandum from the Central Office of Montgomery County Public School whose subject is regarding information for parents and new feedback cards for stakeholder involvement. I have been asked to make this information available to our school community.
“The Montgomery County Board of Education will hold two public forums to discuss the Montgomery County Public Schools strategic plan and FY 2009 operating budget. They will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 7:00 p.m., at Quince Orchard High School and on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Wheaton High School. Not everyone will be able to attend the forums, and those who do attend may feel uneasy about giving testimony. To address these issues, we will solicit feedback from stakeholders throughout the year by using TIP feedback cards.” Blue TIP cards will be available on the white cabinet in the main hall in English and Spanish for parents to complete, if they wish. “The Board of Education and Executive staff members will use the TIP cards at meetings to obtain input from constituents. We will post a feedback form on the MCPS Web site at www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/community/forums/feedback/ for those individuals who wish to respond online.
The members of the Woodfield staff and I welcome your feedback, as well. If you do not have comments for the school board but wish to provide the school with feedback instead, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me. We greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Walk Your Child To School Day
On Wednesday, October 3rd, students and parents are invited to participate in Walk Your Child To School Day. Students who normally walk to school are encouraged to meet at the Plantations Pool at 8:30 a.m. Students who normally ride buses to school or are driven to school may also walk if parents choose to bring them to the Plantations Pool at 8:30 a.m. Please make sure that no child is left at the pool before staff arrives for the walk or after students and staff have left to walk to Woodfield. Buses will drop students off in front of Woodfield on Tuesday morning as usual.
Terra Nova Testing - Grade 2
Please note that the Terra Nova 2 testing date has been moved. The correct dates are Monday, April 28 –

Free or Reduced Lunch
Please note, if you qualify due to your family household income level, your children may be eligible to receive free or reduced lunch. Please call the school to have one of these forms sent home to you if you feel a need for these services.
Halloween Young Run
The annual Halloween Young Run, sponsored by the Montgomery County Roadrunners Club, will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at West Gude Drive and Route 355, Rockville, Maryland . Proceeds from the run will benefit Sports Plus which is a local children’s charity. The deadline for early registration is October 15, 2007.
Sports Plus is a year-round, co-ed sports program for verbal children between the ages of 5 and 14 with mild to moderate autistic spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD and other developmental disabilities. Sports Plus was designed to create opportunities for children and their families to meaningfully participate in team sports. The goal is to create a comfortable, positive experience for children and parents to learn sports, fitness, and social skills that extend far beyond the playing field.

Woodfield Golf Tournament
I had the pleasure of attending the Woodfield Golf Tournament at the Links at Challedon Golf Course in Mt. Airy last Friday. Due to the many hours spent by a very dedicated committee and the golfers who chose to participate, as well as the many sponsors, this tournament was a huge success. All of the sponsors were thanked in the PTA newsletter earlier this week. I would also like to acknowledge the many golfers who participated and the hardworking committee who made this event possible. Please note to names posted below. Due to the efforts of many, we are much closer to get the Woodfield track resurfaced.

Thought for this week:
“I believe the greatest gift I can conceive of having from anyone is to be seen by them, heard by them, to be understood and touched by them. The greatest gift I can give is to see, hear, understand and to touch another person. When this is done I feel contact has been made.” Quote by Virginia Satir.

There is no charge to participate in the walk and we encourage all students to participate. There will be great information, snacks, exercises and surprises for all students. For more information or to help on the day of the walk email Suzanne Hoefler at suzanhoefler@hotmail.com or Pam Clay at pjclay44@msn.com .
