It is the counselor’s role to support students so they can at their best at school, academically, socially and emotionally.  In order to do this the Woodlin Counseling Program has several components.

For Students

  • Monthly Classroom CounselingLessons – Topics include respect, friendship, and bullying.
  • Individual Counseling – Students are identified through parent, teacher and self-referral. A student may be seen just once or up to 8 times depending on the concern.  Parental permission is required after two sessions.
  • Counseling Groups – Groups meet at lunch and themes are determined by need at each grade level.  Popular topics are social skills, study skills, self-esteem, anger management and family changes. Please let me know if you feel your child could benefit from a counseling group.  Contact information is at the top of the page. Staff referrals and self-referrals are also used in forming counseling groups.
  • Grade Level Lunch Bunches -  Students have an opportunity to have lunch Bunch in my office just for fun. This is to interact with different students. It helps me get to know individual students better, and also provides students, who are not comfortable talking in a large group setting, a chance to express themselves in a smaller group. If you feel your child would benefit from this experience, please encourage him/her to come.

For Staff/Parents

  • Consultation- I am available to meet with parents and staff (sometimes together) to discuss student concerns.

Referrals

  • In addition to discussing the concern, I can provide information about community resources that support children and families. So please feel free to call with your concerns.

Parent Network Meetings (Evenings)

  • Parent programs through the year to address topics of interest and/or concern to parents.

STOP and Think Program

Woodlin is a "STOP AND THINK" school. When children need help solving problems, our staff will use the following steps. Try it at home. It really works! It is most effective when used at home and school.

Step 1: Calmly Ask your child to:

"STOP AND THINK".

Step 2: Remind your child:
"DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A GOOD CHOICE OR A BAD CHOICE?"
Step 3: Ask your child:
"WHAT ARE YOUR CHOICES OR STEPS?"
Step 4: Instruct your child:
"DO IT:" or "SHOW ME THE
GOOD CHOICE".
Step 5: Tell your child:
"GOOD JOB" or "YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELF".
