Here’s what’s happening around school today.

Our Girls’ Soccer team host their first home soccer game TOMORROW vs. Rosa Parks. The game starts at 3:15, and all soccer games will be played behind the Bauer Rec Center this season. Come support our Lady Mustangs!

Intramural soccer continues this week for 6th graders only on Thursday after school.

All Algebra 1 students are scheduled to take the High School Assessment (HSA) for algebra/data analysis on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012.

This assessment is one of three HSAs that students need to pass in order to graduate from high school. We would like to invite parents of Algebra students to our annual HSA Night at Wood. This is an opportunity for parents to receive information about the format and requirements of the HSA, as well as understand how to access review materials for all three HSA tests. The HSA night will be Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Wood Middle School in the media center. We look forward to seeing parents attend.

Attention SGA! If you were asked to help Mr. Carmi with the SMOB Election, please report to room 292 after school today. We will spend about 30 minutes setting up for tomorrow’s election as well as preparing for tomorrow’s duties. Please see Mr. Carmi if you have any questions. In addition, we will be having a meeting this Thursday to plan our bake sale and end of the year trip.

Novelists Club: Our "Hooray, we're done" pizza party will be next Thursday, April 26. All novels and covers need to be completed and submitted to Ms. Kidd by that date. If you need to finish your novel, you may stay after school today or tomorrow. See Ms. Kidd to let her know your status.

The STEM Academy meets today at 2:45 pm in room 108. It’s only open to students who have attended at least one of the meetings this semester. Snacks and activity buses are provided. See you there!

Intramural soccer continues today for 6th graders only. We will meet in room 101 after school.

The Lady Mustangs played their second soccer game of the year and came out of Argyle Middle School with a victory.
The girls won the game by a score of 2 to 1. All in all, it was a total team effort and the girls are looking to continue improving as the season progresses.

Congratulations to the many Wood artists whose work will be on display this weekend at White Flint Mall. Students will represent Wood at the Elementary and Middle School Art Fair open now through this Sun. April 22 at 5 PM.

The SISTERS Group needs your help! We are starting a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities provide temporary homes for families of seriously ill children who live too far away to travel each day. We are collecting house hold items: brooms, dust pans, soap, shampoo, combs/brush, etc. We are also collecting individually wrapped snack food items: chips, trail mix, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc. PLEASE help us by donating these items. You can drop the items off in the boxes located in either the office or the counseling office. If you have any questions please see Ms. Smith. Thank you very much!

Rockville High School Drama opens “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” this week! Show times are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7pm, and Saturday at 2pm. Children under 10 can attend a meet-and-greet with Cinderella and the rest of the cast on Friday before the show, from 6:30-6:50. Don’t miss it!

The use of words that sounds like the natural noises they name.
For example, “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz. Oh, what a relief it is!” is an advertising slogan of Alka Seltzer, a heartburn relief medication. “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz” represents the sounds that are made when two Alka Seltzer tablets are dropped in water and then begin to bubble.
You should also note that the word onomatopoeia often appears in spelling bees because it is a very unusual word. Unlike most words in the English language, onomatopoeia contains four vowels in a row, “oeia”. Perhaps that is why it is so often misspelled.

Although the team didn't place, the ladies brought it and left everything out on the stage. We could not have asked for more and are so proud of the team. Thank you to the staff who came out and supported us as well. If you see any of the Wood M.A.S.T.E.R. steppers, please congratulate them on a great performance.

Congratulations to North Carolina and Georgetown for winning their intramural basketball conference tournament championships! Now Wood Madness begins! All teams will play on Tuesday in one final tournament to crown a school champion…then they get to take on the teachers!
