Preliminary Speakers Secretary of Education Rod Paige and Secretary
of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi
were followed by former Senator Robert Dole.
President George W. Bush spoke for about 15 minutes to a very receptive
audience of students,
faculty, dignitaries, and veterans. Applause and cheers punctuated
his address frequently.
After his address and the signing of the proclamation, the President,
flanked by his Secret Service Agents,
moved down to the auditorium floorto shake hands with members of
the audience.
A number of Wootton faculty and students were thrilled to shake
his hand
