Local Opportunities

American University Discover The World Of Communication
This summer program offers high school students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to explore the field of communication through the Discover the World of Communication program. Students can choose from over 35 hands-on experiential classes including photography, animation, film production, flash fiction writing, public speaking, international communication, documentary filmmaking and weather broadcasting.

George Washington University Pre-College Program
The Pre-College Program offers two summer opportunities: College Intensive and Summer Immersion. The College Intensive program offers rising juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit through undergraduate level courses, access university resources, and preview an authentic college experience. The Summer Immersion is a program offers rising sophomores, juniors and seniors the opportunity to expand and deepen their knowledge of a topic through rigorous noncredit sessions that connect academic experience with real-world activities.

Offers an engaging hands-on experience and an opportunity to earn college credit.

Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program
A free​ ​7-week introductory computer science ​program ​for​ ​rising junior or senior girls.

KID Museum Summer Camps
The museum offers week long interactive camps that integrate science, technology, engineering, art and math for elementary and middle school students.

Maryland Leadership Workshops
At MLW's week-long residential leadership workshops, students experience creative and interactive workshops, hands-on leadership opportunities, and personal coaching; immersing themselves in all aspects of leadership.

Maryland Summer Centers For Gifted And Talented Students
The Maryland Summer Centers engage gifted and talented students entering grades 2-12 in unique summer programs at a number of locations across the state. Tuition varies for these one or two week residential and nonresidential programs with a focus on the arts, sciences, mathematics, technology, engineering, history, law and government, and creative writing.

MICA Pre-College Art and Design Residency Program
This 2 to 5-week program for rising juniors and seniors is an intensive college-level experience that offers opportunmities to build a professional portfolio of work.

Montgomery College Youth Summer Programs
Summer courses that offer a variety of fun, educational, and engaging learning activities for students grades K-12 on Montgomery College's three campuses.

Montgomery County Recreation Volunteer Opportunities
The Therapeutic Recreation program offers a variety of volunteer options for students ages 14 and older to assist people with disabilities in summer day camps and programs.

Natural Resources Careers Camp
This week long camp is designed for high school students across Maryland to explore careers and college studies in natural resources.

NIH High School Scientific Training and Enrichment Program (HISTEP)
A 7-week full-time summer internship for current high school juniors interested in STEM fields. HISPTEP 2.0,for high school seniors, is a program in biomedical research for students with little to no research experience. Students accepted to either program will receive transportation benefits and a stipend

Smithsonian Summer Camp Youth Teaching Assistants (YTA)
Smithsonian Summer Camps offer highly motivated teenagers, ages 15 and up, to assist with Summer Camp as Youth Teaching Assistants (YTA). Sessions are held Monday-Friday on the National Mall in the S. Dillon Ripley Center. Students can earn Student Service Learning hours.

University of Maryland E2@UMD
A one-week residential program for high school girls who are interested in engineering as a college major and career. Rising juniors and seniors will increase their knowledge of engineering disciplines through hands-on activities, lab experiments, workshops, team challenges, and seminars with professional engineers.

University of Maryland S.P.I.C.E. Camp
Students with Potential and Interest Considering Engineering (S.P.I.C.E.) is a week long commuter program for rising sophomores and junior girls who want to learn more about engineering majors, opportunities, and careers.

University of Maryland Jump Start Program
A one-week science immersion program for rising juniors and seniors who are exploring careers in science. Students participate in lab investigations, seminars and workshops and learn the tools of modern life sciences research.

White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics Internship Program
This unpaid internship program provides students with opportunities to learn about Latino focused educational policies and programs that address educational inequalities in the Hispanic community.

Adventures Cross Country Summer Programs (AARC)
A 2 to 5-week community service program that combines adventure and authentic cultural activities in a variety of programs across 6 continents.

American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) Summer Program Abroad
A variety of summer study abroad programs for high school graduates. Scholarships and financial aid is available.

Berklee College of Music Summer Programs
Programs for middle and high school students in music performance, theater, dance, music production, songwriting, opera and music business. Scholarships available to select programs.

Boston University Tanglewood Institute
Boston University's College of Fine Arts offers two to six-week summer music training programs for middle and high school students for all orchestral instruments, voice, piano, and composition. Program is affiliated with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood Music Center. Merit and financial aid scholarships are available.

Broadreach Global Educational Adventures
Educational and skill building opportunities in over 40 countries for middle and high school students. Programs combine traditional learning with field experiences and community service.

The Bronfman Fellowship
Rising seniors who self-identify as Jewish and are accepted in to the Fellowship participate in formal and informal educational opportunities that they may not be able to explore during the school year. The program includes a 5-week all expenses paid trip to Israel. Fellowship awards are based on merit.

Brown Pre-College Summer Programs
Challenging programs for motivated middle or high school students who want to experience all facets of life on an Ivy League campus. Prospective students must apply for admission.

Concordia Language Villages
A summer language and immersion program in 15 languages for every level of ability. Language is taught in an culturally authentic setting through real conversations. Scholarship opportunities available.

The Curie Academy
A one-week residential program for high school girls who excel in math and science and want to learn more about engineering. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Minority rising seniors and/or first generation college students meeting specific academic requirements will automatically be considered for a full tuition waiver. Financial assistance for tuition and/or travel is available based on demonstrated need.

The Experiment in International Living
Summer abroad programs for high school students in one of 33 programs throughout 27 countries. Program themes include a variety of interests, including sustainability and the environment, arts and social change, language and cultural discovery, leadership training, and peace, politics and human rights.

Exeter Summer
A 5-week program of academic study, athletics, and personal exploration in a diverse community. The Upper School program is open to rising 10-12 grade students and the Access Exeter program for rising 8-9 grade students.

GenCyber@NU-Cyber Security & Cyber Defense Camp
Programs in information security and digital forensics for rising juniors and seniors. Students will learn, explore, experiment, and apply basic concepts of forensics and cryptography. All expenses for the week-long program, including tuition, room and board, and local commuting to and from campus, are covered by a grant from the NSA and NSF.

GoBeyond
A community service and adventure summer program focusing on humanitarian service projects. Through meaningful and culturally rich hands-on learning experiences, students help to transform the under-resourced communities and environments they are visiting.

High School Diplomats
A 10-day cultural exchange program at Princeton University where American sophomores and juniors engage in cross cultural academic and social activities with Japanese students of the same age. Scholarship awards pay for room, board and activities.

Johnson & Wales University Career Explorations
Three day summer programs for rising juniors and seniors to explore a variety of careers in the fields of culinary arts, baking & pastry arts, or hospitality.

Projects Abroad
A variety of 2 to 4-week volunteer program for 15-18 year old students that offers hands-on and observational service work in a community abroad.

SACI – Studio Arts College International Gap Year Study Abroad
Program offers high school graduates the opportunity to spend a summer semester or more in Florence, Italy building a portfolio for admittance to art schools, liberal arts colleges, or universities. Scholarships are available.

Snow Farm Summer
A hands-on intensive Summer Art program for students ages 14-18 who are considering art school or a career in the arts. Small classes and with multiple instructors. Scholarships are available.

SPI High School Immersion Study Abroad Programs
Five programs providing authentic cultural immersion, leadership and volunteer service experiences abroad in Spain, Costa Rica, France, Italy, and China.

Summer Institute for The Gifted
A residential program for gifted and talented students, ages 9-17, providing challenging multi-curricular, arts and recreational courses at various prestigious colleges and universities across the country. SIG also offers an eight-week online program for gifted and talented students ages 7-12.

Visions Service Adventures
Offers high school students ages 14-18 opportunities for ambitious service work in communities in the U.S. and abroad. Each program focuses on meaningful service projects, cultural immersion and adventurous exploration.
