Mathematics is the study of patterns and relationships. In this unit, students extend their understanding of authentic and geometric patterns or sequences and develop an understanding of functional relationships. Students represent, interpret, and analyze functions using tables and graphs.
They also graph translations, reflections, and rotations on coordinate planes. Students use the vocabulary of functions and distinguish between the graphs of non-linear functions and linear functions. Graphing functions and relationships on a coordinate plane is another important concept that is learned.
Connections among mathematical concepts are made using the coordinate plane. Students represent and analyze translations, reflections, and rotations using the coordinate plane.
Unit 5 is typically a five-week unit taught in February
