Employees who are enrolled in basic employee term life insurance automatically receive basic dependent term life insurance at no additional cost. Employees may also elect to purchase additional dependent life insurance coverage.
If you are enrolled in basic life insurance, you automatically receive basic dependent life insurance as follows:
MCPS pays 100 percent of the cost for basic dependent life insurance. You are always the beneficiary for dependent life insurance.
If you are enrolled for basic life insurance, you may choose to purchase additional dependent life insurance in the amount of $10,000 for each eligible dependent. The cost of coverage is based on a flat rate, regardless of the number of dependents you enroll.
You pay for the full cost of this coverage.
Employees may enroll within 60 days of initial employment or during a future open enrollment by providing evidence of insurability and receiving approval from the insurer. The process of providing evidence of insurability will be initiated by the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) after your enrollment form has been processed with our office. You may cancel this coverage at any time.
