In-Person Summer School Program

About the In-Person Program

Location

  • Gaithersburg High School

 

Dates

  • Session 1:
    June 30-July 18 (No class on July 4)
  • Session 2:
    July 22-August 8

Instructional Experience

  • Students attend in-person for each day of the session.
  • Each day of class will cover the same volume of work that students during the year cover in approximately 1 week, so attendance is absolutely essential.
  • Classes begin at 8:00 am and end at 12:30 pm.

Calendar

  • April 3: Registration begins
  • May 1: Non-MCPS registration opens
  • June 2: Registration ends for Session 1 courses–no changes to course selection permitted after this date for Session 1 courses
  • June 30: First day of classes for Session 1
  • June 30: Registration ends for Session 2 courses–no changes to course selection permitted after this date for Session 2 courses
  • July 18: Last day of Session 1 courses
  • July 22: First day of Session 2 courses
  • August 8: Last day of Session 2 courses
  • August 13: Summer Graduation Rehearsal
  • August 14: Summer Graduation

Tuition

Students who are taking courses for original credit and students retaking courses to improve original grade earned will have to pay tuition. Students retaking required
graduation courses for credit recovery, to replace a failing grade, will not have to pay.

    • School Cash Online is the preferred payment method
    • A 4% service fee, reflected in the costs above, are added to each invoice
    • School counselors will register the students.  Parents/caregivers will receive an invoice through School Cash Online with payment instructions.
    • Parents and caregivers can make in-person payments for summer school, cash or money order only (exact amount only), at 15 W. Gude Dr., Rockville, MD 20850 on the following dates:
      • Monday, June 2: 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
      • Tuesday, June 3: 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
      • Wednesday, Jne 4: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
      • Thursday, June 5: 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
      • Monday, June 9: 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
      • Thursday, June 12: 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
    • Payments must be received 10 days before the first class meeting, or students will not be enrolled in course.
    • Full or partial refunds may be made for students who attend class for the first 5 days of a session or less. A parent/guardian must request the refund prior to the refund deadline (Session 1: July 3; Session 2: July 24).

Course List

Please note the following when registering:

  • Biology B and NSL B can only be taken by students graduation in the class of 2027 or later, and those students must also take the summer state test for their grade to be recorded.
  • Hon Health Education A and Hon Health Education B may not be taken in the same session. Students may take Hon Health Education A in session 1 and Hon Health Education B in session 2.
  • English, World Language, and state-tested subjects (Algebra 1, Biology, and NSL) may not be taken for original credit.
  • rising 9th graders may only take courses in the following contents:
    • Health
    • Technology
    • Fine Arts
    • Math–with express approval from student’s middle school math team

Registration

*Registration opens April 3rd.  Please see your school counselor for registration.

Transportation

  • MCPS students can receive a free pass for Ride-On buses here.
  • Access the Ride-On page here to plan your route to your in-person summer school site.

There will be a limited number of MCPS bus routes from less Ride-On accessible locations to Gaithersburg High School.  (Subject to change)
