Real-time Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Monitoring at Schools

As a part of our commitment to healthy learning and working environments for all students and staff, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has installed permanent real-time indoor air quality (IAQ) sensors in school classrooms, media centers, and all-purpose rooms. Sensors have been placed strategically to monitor various IAQ parameters. All sensors include the basic parameters of temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide (CO2). A subset of sensors also detect the presence of potential airborne contaminants such as particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ozone (O3), and carbon monoxide (CO). When potentially elevated levels are discovered, the system alerts the MCPS environmental compliance team for further review and follow-up.

The links below are to a portal for the public to view representative data collected by sensors at each school during the general operating hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • The data displayed on the public portal is each school's median (middle) sensor values.
  • A trend line of all median data for each school is also displayed to the left of the value.

Using these links, staff, parents, and students can view their school's data in a real-time window. If you have any questions, please email sustainability@mcpsmd.org
