2023 Washington Post Teacher of the Year Award

Nominee Criteria:

Nominees must be full-time certified teachers of pre-kindergarten through Grade 12. The award is intended for those teachers who work directly with students in their classrooms on a daily basis or with their assigned caseloads. Teachers must have completed a minimum of five years teaching experience (in their sixth year or beyond), three of which must be in MCPS. Teachers must maintain their teaching position throughout the 2021-2022 school year.

Nominees must be teachers who:

  • instill in students a desire to learn and achieve
  • understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents, and foster their self-esteem
  • demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students
  • foster cooperative relationships with their colleagues and the community
  • demonstrate outstanding leadership
