WORKING TITLE: Coordinator, Preferred Choice GRADE: N MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Provides leadership and assumes responsibility for the preferred choice student assignment process. Coordinates planning and implementation of a comprehensive school choice process which includes student assignments, marketing, parent/student outreach, enrollment, registration, transfers, appeals, and articulation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the instructional programs of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Knowledge of research and best practices in the development and implementation of magnets, academies, and small learning communities. Knowledge of school choice programs and processes. Ability to design and lead special projects related to the development and implementation of the choice process. Ability to develop and design marketing materials. Knowledge of student enrollment, registration and articulation. Knowledge of MCPS policies related to enrollment, transfers, and appeals preferred. Ability to work effectively with principals and other offices in MCPS. Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with specialization in the area of curricula and/or administration. Experience as an instructional specialist, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal and/or principal. Administrative and supervisory certification and experience preferred. Experience providing leadership in designing, planning, and implementing instructional programs. Experience with the student enrollment process, curriculum development, student articulation, course registration, and program marketing. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland certification requirements for secondary teacher. Coursework in administration and supervision preferred (additional course work leading to administrative/supervisory credential may be completed while in position).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Frequent night meetings, weekend work, and extended work hours.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates planning and implementation of a comprehensive school choice process.

Coordinates the preferred choice student assignment process.

Coordinates the enrollment of new students.

Coordinates the preferred choice transfer and appeal process.

Facilitates the articulation process for students moving from elementary to middle school and middle to high school through the preferred choice process.

Participates in selection of and coordinates staff in the Consortia Center.

Facilitates the development and implementation of program and preferred choice information campaign for students, parents, staff, and community.

Publicizes and promotes programs through the development and distribution of written materials, presentations to school and community groups, and media interviews.

Implements both formative and summative evaluation procedures.

Facilitates communication with staff and parents on a continuing basis.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
