WORKING TITLE: Auto Parts Assistant (Shift 1) GRADE: 13 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Automotive Parts Supervisor, orders, receives, stores, and issues automotive equipment and replacement parts from the central parts room at the Shady Grove location and is accountable for properly receiving and reviewing and issuing a wide variety of requisitions, purchase orders, and automotive parts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of a variety of parts, equipment, tools, materials, and supplies used in the automotive trade. Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures, including inventory record-keeping, and purchase and requisition procedures. Familiarity with computerized inventory systems are required. Ability to accurately maintain inventory and stock control records and to prepare reports; ability to determine quality of goods against prescribed specifications. Ability to operate automated parts system. Good oral and written communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Experience in the ordering, receipt, storage, and issuance of equipment and supplies, including some experience in an automotive repair shop and in parts ordering and dispensing. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland state commercial class B driver's license or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Sufficient physical strength and stamina to lift objects up to 100 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time, and complete work requiring considerable physical exertion. Exposure to inclement weather possible.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Some overtime work may be required. Flexibility to work different shifts as needed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for issuing parts to mechanics for specific jobs and/or vehicles and filling parts orders from the Department of Transportation satellite depots. Insures that parts are delivered to the depots; adds, deletes and charges parts for the depots; monitors stock levels and advises the Auto Parts Specialist of what is needed.

Receives and stores orders for parts or equipment; checks contents against billing to verify that the order is correct and complete and that costs are as quoted or per authorized price schedules; uses trade catalogs listing replacement part numbers and issues parts to mechanics for repair of vehicles.

As requested by and in the absence of the Automotive Parts Specialist, orders and reorders automotive replacement parts and other items such as chassis, engines, brakes, electrical and ignition units, tires, tubes, safety equipment, gasoline, oil, and shop supplies;

Consults with Auto Parts specialist to determine correct spare parts which will be needed and then obtains these items for stock; as required,

Contacts at least three distributors whose products meet specifications and orders from lowest bidder; confers with sales representatives who desire to compare cost of items.
