Establishing end-of-year reading benchmarks on MAP-R for Grades 3-8

Description:

This research brief describes the end-of-year reading benchmarks as measured by MAP-R RIT scores for proficient and advanced levels for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Grades 3-8 students. It discusses how the reading benchmarks were established with a standard setting procedure-borderline group method. Validity evidence and validation results were provided in the brief.

Recommendations:

  • Use the MAP-R RIT cut scores (Table 1) established with the borderline group method as end-of-year reading benchmarks for Grades 3-8 students.
  • Use RIT scores to monitor student progress across test administrations in a school year or across grade levels.
