Sports Insight Episode 31, Student-Athlete Leaders

Student-athletes interested in participating in the Student-Athlete Leadership Conference should contact their local school athletics specialist by February 5, 2024.

MCPS Athletics is accepting applications for rising juniors and seniors to represent MCPS Athletics at the 2024 NFHS National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS), July 22-25, at the Alexander Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana. Student delegates will travel with and be chaperoned by a member of the Student-Athlete Leadership Council Planning Committee (local school Athletics Specialist or Ms. Green).

Students will develop leadership skills while interacting with their peers from around the United States and other countries.  Information received at this conference will be used to assist with planning for the implementation of the 2024-2025 MCPS Student-Athlete Leadership Council.

The NFHS and MPSSAA will cover most of the expenses: hotel room, airfare, materials, meals, and local ground transportation.  Students will be responsible for transportation to and from BWI airport and for incidental spending expenses.

The delegates will be chosen by the MCPS Department of Athletics with recommendation from local school Athletics Specialists, based on the following criteria:

Respect & Sportsmanship – student-athletes must demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship when representing their school and “respect the game”

Academic Excellence – student-athletes must have achieved the MCPS academic eligibility standards for participation in interscholastics athletics

Integrity & Honesty – student-athletes must demonstrate the highest level of character in the realm of competition and be prepared to represent MCPS Athletics on a national stage

Spirited, Safe Competition – students must have competed on a varsity or junior varsity athletics team during the current school year

Equity & Access – all rising junior and senior student-athletes that meet the above criteria are eligible to apply
