Upcoming October SSL Opportunities!

  • LGBTQ+ History in Montgomery County (October 3, 2023, 5:30PM-7PM) - In recognition of LGBTQ+ History Month, this virtual webinar will focus on understanding LGBTQ+ history and challenges they faced in Montgomery County, MD.  Middle and high school students will receive 2 SSL hours for attending the event and completing a follow-up advocacy component.   • Hispanic Heritage Month - Uncovering the Journey of a Latino Reporter (October 4, 2023, 6:30PM-8PM) - In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, join Alberto Pimienta, Telemundo 44 anchor, and Lilian Mass, Telemundo community reporter, as they share personal stories about the struggles and victories they experienced in their journeys to become journalists. Middle and high school students will receive 2 SSL hours for attending the event and completing a follow-up advocacy component. To learn more and register, please click here.

ASIRT Road Safety PSA Contest (Deadline: October 8, 2023) - The Association for Safe International Road Travel (ASIRT) and the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association are hosting a Public Service Announcement (PSA) competition for middle school and high school students centered on road safety and how to keep yourself and others safe on the roads.

  • Hispanic Heritage Month - Hispanic Heritage in Montgomery County (October 17, 2023, 6:30PM-8PM) - Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by learning about Latino history in Montgomery County. Middle and high school students will receive 2 SSL hours for attending the event and completing a follow-up advocacy component. To learn more and register, please click here.

  • Montgomery County Public Schools Girls Summit (October 21, 2023, 9AM-1PM) - Session topics include healthy relationships/dating violence, social media use and mental health, identifying symptoms of depression and anxiety, Narcan training, and much more! Students may earn SSL hours for attending and learning this important information so that they can help to spread awareness about these topics and participate in Narcan training to support in the case of an emergency.   • 2023 MCPS Student Environmental Volunteer Day (November 1, 2023, 9:30AM-2PM) - Calling all MCPS high school students! Learn about sustainability, beautify the community, and enhance the health of the local environment by planting native plants and trees. To learn more and register, please click here.
