Future Vote

Future Vote was approved by the Montgomery County Board of Elections in 2004. Its main goal is to increase civic participation and knowledge of the political process. The program allows the Board of Elections to employ students as student election aides to help at the polls during elections.

You can learn more at the Board of Elections FAQ webpage.

https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Elections/FrequentlyAskedQuestions/future-vote-faqs.html

There are two levels of involvement for Future Vote:

  • Student election aides

    • Student election aides are employed for one Election cycle at a time.  They may be youth from grades 6-12.

    • Student Election Aides dispense voting-related literature, pick up trash, indicate restrooms and polling-room exits and help voters in wheelchairs. Student Election Aides are required to be sensitive and polite with all voters, including those with special needs and, if possible, provide information and /or assistance in a second language or in American Sign Language.

  • Election workers

    • Election workers must be U.S. citizens, registered to vote, live in Maryland, and be at least 16 years of age or older.

    • Students who wish to serve as an election worker must register with their Maryland Driver’s license, Learner’s Permit or MVA identification card. (An MCPS Student ID is not accepted.)

    • Students will also need to know the last 4 digits of their social security number.

Adults/students can earn up to $250 or up to 25 SSL credits per day if they serve as an election worker. Individuals must be U.S. citizens, registered to vote, live in Maryland and be at least 16 years of age or older to serve.
