Apprenticeship for Students

Apprenticeships offer students the opportunity to work for an employer earning at least minimum wage and gaining in-demand job skills that often lead to full time employment with opportunities to complete skilled training.

A digital platform to complete interest, skills and values surveys, find opportunities and create a personal digital portfolio.

Apprenticeships are available in all MCPS high schools. 

Student Responsibilities

  • Students must complete the program prior to graduating high school.
  • Students must complete 450 hours of work-based training and one year of related classroom instruction.
  • Students must complete and submit all required forms by the specified deadlines.
  • Students must report to their apprenticeship site on time and be prepared to work.

Eligibility to Apply

Criteria:

  • A highly motivated and responsible student
  • Age 16 or older
  • A rising junior or senior currently enrolled in an MCPS high school
  • Have a Social Security number or legal authorization to be employed in the United States based on Federal Requirements.
  • Able to coordinate public or personal transportation to and from a work site
