The Office of Human Resources and Development provides higher education partnership opportunities to MCPS employees who are seeking teacher certification or licensure, continuing professional development, or who are pursuing career advancement. UMBC Master’s Degree or Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) will offer a four-graduate course post-baccalaureate certificate (PBC) in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. The certificate program is designed primarily for elementary, middle and high school teachers who hold initial certification in a content area other than ESOL and who teach or will teach English Language Learners. Successful completion of the PBC will prepare candidates for the ESOL PRAXIS for the add-on certification endorsement. Information about the PBC is available here. The master’s program is for individuals needing initial teaching certification in ESOL. A program flyer is available here.

Hood College offers graduate certificate and master’s degree pathways for Educational Leadership leading to Administrator I certification. To be eligible, employees should have three or more consecutive years of successful classroom teaching experience and tenure. A flyer on the program is available here.
