MCPS Athletics is accepting applications for rising juniors and seniors to represent MCPS at the 2024 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) National Student Leadership Summit from July 22-25, in Indianapolis, Ind.

This is the only national student leadership summit for high school student-athletes. Students will develop leadership skills, while interacting with their peers from around the U.S. and other countries. Information received at this conference will be used to assist with planning for the implementation of the MCPS Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC).

The NFHS and Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association will cover most of the expenses, including hotel room, airfare, materials, meals and local ground transportation. Students will be responsible for transportation to and from BWI airport and spending expenses.

Applicants should represent the best of MCPS Athletics and epitomize R.A.I.S.E. core values. Delegates will be chosen by the SALC Planning Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Respect and sportsmanship – student-athletes must demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship when representing their school and “respect the game.”
  • Academic excellence – student-athletes must have achieved a minimum 3.0 (or higher) cumulative Grade Point Average.
  • Integrity and honesty – student-athletes must demonstrate the highest level of character in the realm of competition and be prepared to represent MCPS Athletics on a national stage.
  • Spirited, safe competition – students must have competed on a varsity team during the current school year.
  • Equity and access – all juniors and seniors that meet the above criteria are eligible to submit an application.
