Sofia, a second grader from Kensington Parkwood Elementary School, could soon have her art on the Google homepage for hundreds of millions to see. Sofia is one of the 55 U.S. state and territory winners with her Doodle in the Doodle for Google contest. Read more.
To help their favorite Doodles succeed, people across the U.S. can vote for their favorite Doodle from the 55 state and territory winners. Voting ends Tuesday, June 4 on this site. The public vote will determine the contest finalists and winner. The winner will have their Doodle featured on the Google homepage for a day.
The national winner will take home a $55,000 college scholarship and their school will receive a $50,000 tech package towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology program.

More Than 20 Students Recognized for Writing Talent
More than 20 middle school students were recognized during the annual Mosaic, Celebrating Diversity through Creative Writing Awards Ceremony on May 22. The writing contest for middle school students was sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County. Entries were essays, short stories or poems and allowed students to express their personal reflections on diversity and culture.

ATF, ITF Students Honored for Top Achievements
Last week, more than 400 students gathered to celebrate top achievements at the annual Career and Awards Day hosted by the MCPS Foundations Office and the Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades (ATF) and Information Technology Foundations (ITF).
Nine students were recognized by their teachers as Outstanding Students. They were: Karla Vasquez, Nelson Zetino, Sami Abushaikha, Stephanie Maldonado, Joselyn Benitez, Caroline Frost, EG Marshall Cabotaje, Wayne Bright and Taahlib Thornton.
DARCARS and Fitzgerald Automotive Groups also recognized graduating students who are interning with their organizations.
In addition, the ATF awarded three students with scholarships: Joshua Frimpong, Joshua E. Saintilma and Reece Clegg. For these students, the ATF will pay fees associated with the Automotive Education Dealership Institute (ADEI) program and help place them in a dealership. The students will receive a full-time salary and spend one day a week at Montgomery College to complete college-level automotive courses. At the end of the two-year program, students will have connections within the industry and additional certifications to ensure that they will be able to earn a living wage.
In addition, more than 180 MCPS students were recognized as MCPS Program Completers; ATF and ITF students earned more than 300 specialized industry certifications, including ASE, iCar and CompTIA.
