Graduation Ceremonies Kick Off May 29, Featuring Notable Speakers

More than 12,000 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students are expected to receive their high school diplomas during commencement ceremonies scheduled between Wednesday, May 29, and Wednesday, June 12. Graduation ceremonies will take place on individual high school campuses, at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and on the campuses of Mount St. Mary’s University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Ceremonies are ticketed events.
On May 29, the first seniors crossed the stage at Montgomery Blair High School, who graduated on campus.
The ceremonies will include an array of commencement speakers, including authors, politicians, educators, MCPS staff members and others.
Among those who will speak: Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, who will speak at Thomas S. Wootton High School; Aruna Miller, Lt. Gov. of Maryland, who will speak at Northwest High School; David Vanterpool, assistant coach of the Washington Wizards, who will speak at Montgomery Blair High School; Mike Sacks, author of 10 comedy books, frequent contributor to The New Yorker and Winston Churchill High School alumnus, who will speak at his alma mater; and Dr. William Dunn, president and founder of the Dunn Foundation, who will speak at Paint Branch High School;
Other speakers include:
- Danielle Williams Eke, fashion designer, stylist and James H. Blake High School alumna, who will speak at her alma mater
- Monique Ashton, mayor, City of Rockville, who will speak at Richard Montgomery High School
- Joyce Boone, clinical case manager, Clinical Solutions, who will speak at Blair G. Ewing
- John Ross, executive director, Nourishing Bethesda, who will speak at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
- Edward Owusu, who will speak at Clarksburg High School, where he previously served as principal
- Joe Daniels III, director, Zero Emission Fleet Strategy in the Energy Transformation Organization at Walmart, who will speak at Springbrook High School
- Charlene Thomas, author and Gaithersburg High School alumna, who will speak at her alma mater
- Dr. Henry Johnson, Acting MCPS Chief of Staff, who will speak at Northwood High School, where he previously served as principal.
