The MCPS Student Leadership & Extracurricular Activities Unit hosted the second annual Next Generation Leadership Day on Saturday, April 6 at Wheaton High School. Nearly 500 fourth and fifth grade students from across all elementary schools in the district participated in a leadership conference. Students engaged in workshops created by and led by trained secondary student leaders.
These workshop aimed to:
- Build the confidence, empathy, and leadership capacity of the student leaders;
- Expose student leaders to multiple areas of leadership and advocacy;
- Practice public speaking, teambuilding, goal setting;
- Provide student leaders with a space to connect with other district student leaders.
The elementary student leaders enjoyed a day of leader learning that would not have been possible without the support of the Montgomery County Educational Foundation who donated to the program.
