MCPS Cheerleaders Shine at the 36th Annual Cheerleading Competition

Teams from 25 MCPS high schools performed amazing stunts during the 36th annual cheerleading competition on Oct. 26, held at Montgomery Blair High School. Squads were judged on level of difficulty, technique and execution. The competition showcased the talent of the squads and gave fans an opportunity to support the teams. 

Each team delivered impressive routines filled with high-flying stunts, synchronized choreography, and infectious enthusiasm that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

Winston Churchill High School claimed first place in Division I. “We are all so proud of this team and their hard work.  This win is the direct result of their dedication and focus throughout the year,” said Churchill’s principal, John Taylor.

Sherwood High School won second place and Damascus High School came in third. Paint Branch High School earned the Spirit Award, highlighting their unwavering support and enthusiasm throughout the event.

Division I

First Place: Winston Churchill 

Second Place: Sherwood

Third Place: Damascus 

Spirit Award: Paint Branch 

Division II

First Place: Bethesda-Chevy Chase

Second Place: Blake

Third Place: Northwood 

Spirit Award: Seneca Valley

Division III

First Place: John F. Kennedy 

Second Place: Albert Einstein 

Third Place: Montgomery Blair

Spirit Award: Wheaton 

 

“We are so proud of our student-athletes who excelled and showcased their talents at the MCPS Cheerleading Championships,” said Systemwide Athletics Director Jeffrey Sullivan. “Their stunting, tumbling, and spirited routines exemplify our R.A.I.S.E. core value of spirited competition. A special congratulations is extended to our three division winners – Winston Churchill, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, and John F. Kennedy high schools. We look forward to watching many of our teams compete at the regional and state levels in the coming weeks!”
