Approximately 1,200 students gathered at Shady Grove University for the Hispanic College Fair, held on Friday, October 4. The annual event, sponsored by the National Hispanic College Fair and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), provides a unique platform for students to connect with over 50 colleges, universities, and service organizations dedicated to outreach and opportunity.

Karen Crews, director of School Counseling Services and a key organizer of the event, emphasized the significance of this gathering for 11th and 12th graders. "This event is an opportunity for all of our students to interact with colleges and college directors, learn about the college admissions process, and discover the diverse types of colleges and majors available to them," she said.

Students expressed their excitement about the event. "I like how there are different schools and how you can get information about them," said Sarah, a student from Blake High School. Maria, a student from Northwood High School, shared her newfound insights: "There are a lot of schools that have nursing programs that I didn't know about, and now I know there are more places I could go to learn this profession."

The Hispanic College Fair not only facilitates valuable connections between students and educational institutions but also empowers young individuals to make informed decisions about their futures."It's all about helping them think about what their next four or possibly five years of life will look like," said Crews.
