Tim Rodman, teacher at Walter Johnson High School, has been selected for the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award. He is in his 17th year teaching with MCPS, his 11th at Walter Johnson. He teachers Advanced Placement (AP) Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP U.S. Government and Politics and Political Psychology.

Students accepted into the University of Chicago’s Class of 2028 were asked to nominate an educator whose guidance has helped them along the path toward intellectual growth. Rodman was nominated by former student Daniela Znam, a freshman at the university’s School of Economics.

In her nomination letter, she wrote, “You believed in me until I believed in myself. … Your consistent support and encouragement have been invaluable. … You make the world a better place and inspire me to do the same.”

Rodman said he felt honored that a former student took the time to nominate him for the honor.

“I love hearing from my students about their experiences and I never work a day in my life when they are able to take what we have learned in class and use it in the real world,” Rodman said of the joy of teaching. Rodman previously worked on Capitol Hill and in corporate finance before becoming a teacher.

At Walter Johnson, he sponsors the Model UN Club, the Maryland Youth and Government Club and the DECA/Future Business Leaders club.
