5 MCPS Students Selected for Regeneron Science Talent Search
Five students from Montgomery County Public Schools have been named among the 300 scholars selected for the prestigious 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS), one of the nation's most rigorous science and engineering competitions.
The Montgomery County scholars were chosen from thousands of applicants across the country, and include:
- Bryan Yung, a senior at Poolesville High School, whose project focuses on brain region and frequency band contributions in EEG classification of frontotemporal dementia.
- Naima Aubry-Romero, a senior at Richard Montgomery High School, whose research models, analyzes, and predicts COVID-19 dynamics with interacting subpopulations using physics-informed neural networks.
- Iden Han, a senior at Richard Montgomery High School, who explores the roles of piezo and YAP in nephrocyte pressure response using the Atlas Pressure Device.
- Yunyi Ling, a senior at Montgomery Blair High School, who examines the evolution and costs of streptomycin resistance in Salmonella.
- Jason Youm, a senior at Montgomery Blair High School, whose project investigates the average Rényi entanglement entropy in Gaussian boson sampling.
Each student has won a $2,000 award, and their schools will receive matching funds totaling $10,000. Scholars were selected based on their original research, leadership, academic achievement, creativity, and community involvement. The winners represent schools from 33 states, Washington, D.C., and international locations, including China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Switzerland.
These students now await the next phase of the competition. On Jan. 23, 40 finalists will be selected from the 300 scholars. These 40 students will then compete for more than $1.8 million in awards during a week-long event in Washington, D.C., from March 6-12. The top prize is $250,000.
Congratulations to these students on this achievement. It truly is a recognition of their exceptional talent, creativity, and commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
